China demands US cancel $1.1B Taiwan arms sales or face ‘counter-measures’

China has advised of”counter-measures” unless the United States abandoned a $1.1 billion arms package to Taiwan that it said” oppressively jeopardizes” relations between Washington and Beijing.

“China will intensively take licit and necessary counter-measures in light of the development of the situation,” China’s US delegacy prophet Liu Pengyu said on Friday.

China’s angry response came after the US State Department approved an implicit $1.1 billion trade of military outfits to Taiwan, including 60anti-ship dumdums and 100 air-to-air dumdums.

The package was blazoned in the wake of China’s aggressive service drills around Taiwan following a visit to the islet last month by US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the highest-ranking US functionary to travel to Taipei in time.

The trade includes Sidewinder dumdums, which can be used for air-to-air and face-attack operations, at a cost of some $85.6 million, Harpoon anti-ship dumdums at an estimated $355 million cost, and support for Taiwan’s surveillance radar program for an estimated m$665.4 million, the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency(DSCA) said.

The top contractor for the Harpoon dumdums is Boeing Co. Raytheon is the top contractor for both the Sidewinders and the radar program.

China- Taiwan pressure

The Pentagon said the outfit and support blazoned on Friday would not alter the introductory military balance in the region. US officers said they didn’t reflect any change in policy toward Taiwan.

China says Taiwan is its breakaway fiefdom and has noway ruled out using force to bring the islet under its control.

Taiwan says it’s an independent country.

The US arms deals must be reviewed by Congress, but both Popular and Democratic congressional helpers said they don’t anticipate opposition.
