United Nations Provisional Force According to sources in Lebanon, Tel Aviv has broken the ceasefire agreement “100 times” since November 27.
Since the ceasefire with Lebanon went into force last week, Israel has violated it about “100” times, according to CNN.
“A source with the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon, UNIFIL, says Israel has breached its ceasefire agreement with Lebanon ‘approximately 100’ times since the truce went into effect last week,” according to CNN on Monday.
Israeli officials told CNN prior to UNIFIL remarks that the US approved Tel Aviv’s actions under specific conditions and that the Israeli military’s unilateral action to enforce the truce was not covered by the agreement.
US special envoy Amos Hochstein informed Tel Aviv that Israel has been breaking the ceasefire in Lebanon, according to a CNN affiliate, KAN, on Monday.
Notwithstanding its infractions, the United States asserted that the ceasefire “has been successful.”
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated, “Obviously, you can see violations of any ceasefire.”
November 27 was the day the truce went into force. Israel has been attacking Lebanon every day since.
Israeli attack claimed nine lives.
Following its announcement that it was attacking dozens of Hezbollah targets in the midst of the precarious ceasefire, Israel launched strikes in southern Lebanon on Monday, killing nine people.
According to Lebanon’s health ministry, the attacks led to five fatalities and two injuries “in an initial toll” in the town of Haris, and four further fatalities and one injury in the hamlet of Tallous.
In reaction to the Israeli transgressions, the Hezbollah group earlier claimed to have carried out retaliation operations in a portion of the two nations’ border region.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Hezbollah had committed a “serious violation” of the truce and promised to “respond forcefully” to it.
The agreement requires Hezbollah to demolish its military facilities in the south and remove its militants from regions south of the river.
The agreement calls for the Israeli army to leave southern Lebanon over a 60-day period, followed by the deployment of the Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers.
Since October of last year, Israel’s war against Lebanon has claimed around 4,000 lives.
