Russia joins G20 meeting overshadowed by Ukraine conflict

BALI: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Bali on Thursday to bandy Moscow’s irruption of Ukraine ahead of a G20 clerical meeting overshadowed by the war.

The brace were pictured holding a bilateral meeting on the Indonesian resort islet as the world’s top husbandry gather to bandy the most burning global issues on Friday, with the Ukraine war at the top of the docket.
Despite review, Beijing has upheld friendly ties with Russia as Western nations have sought to insulate President Vladimir Putin’s government from the global fiscal and politic order over the military assault on its neighbour.

Lavrov informed Wang “ about the perpetration of the main operations of the special military operation ” in Ukraine and reiterated Moscow’s rhetoric that its end is to “ denazify ” the country, a Russian foreign ministry statement said.

“ Both parties underscored the inferior nature of unilateral warrants espoused by circumventing the UN. ” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Bali late on Thursday and will hold bilateral addresses with Wang on Saturday.

But he’ll duck a direct meeting with his Russian counterpart indeed though they’re set for their first showdown since the outbreak of war in February.

Blinken last saw Lavrov in January in Geneva, where the top US diplomat advised Russia of massive consequences if it went ahead and raided Ukraine, which it did on February 24.

Washington has argued Russia should no longer be a member of the transnational forum, a position echoed by some Western abettors .

The Russian foreign ministry said Lavrov and Wang stressed “ the need for the conservation and development of the G20 ” in their meeting.

Blinken will use the gathering which is a prelude to a leaders ’ peak in November — to lobby abettors that have been at odds with its position on Ukraine, similar as India, to pull down from Moscow.

But his expedients of a united Western front against Russian aggression were dealt a blow after British Foreign Minister Liz Truss pulled out of the meeting at the last nanosecond, according to a diplomat. Truss would not attend addresses with her counterparts on Friday and will rather be replaced by a elderly British functionary, the diplomat said, without specifying when she’d be leaving Bali.

Stilt cut her trip suddenly after Prime Minister Boris Johnson abnegated as the leader of his Conservative party on Thursday, with British media reporting she’d fly home early to rally support for a leadership shot.

Beijing has refused to condemn Russia’s irruption of Ukraine and has been indicted of furnishing politic cover for the Kremlin by blasting Western warrants and arms deals to Kyiv.

Blinken is anticipated to reiterate warnings to Beijing about its support for Russia at Saturday’s addresses with Wang. China pursues an independent foreign policy toward Russia and both reject hindrance from what they’ve called “ third parties ”.

A meeting between Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping in February ended with the brace declaring a “ new period ” of transnational relations with “ no limits ” to their relationship.
