MIRPUR (AJK), (Parliament Times) : Under the spirit
to make Azad Jammu and Kashmir state green and ever-green and effectively combat environmental pollution, a mass monsoon tree plantation campaign was launched at Divisional Headquarters Teaching Hospital Mirpur here on Sunday.
Seakers including environmentalists, on this occasion strongly suggested to the state government to formulate a more systematic policy regarding tree plantation and environmental protection and provide regular support to educational and medical institutions to play an active role in the tree plantation campaigns.
The inaugural ceremony was inaugurated by by Medical Superintendent Dr. Aamir Aziz, Principal Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College Dr. Faisal Bashir, President Pakistan Medical Association Mirpur Dr. Raja Ijaz Ahmed, medical staff, medical students, social workers and other dignitaries.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr. Aamir Aziz said that e.ergence of a healthy society was possible only when our environment was clean, green and free from pollution. Tree plantation, he continued, was the most important need of the hour, but just planting trees is not enough, their care and nurturing is also equally important.
On this occasion, Dr. Faisal Bashir, Principal MBBS Medical College Mirpur while addressing the ceremony said that as medical professionals, our duty was not only physical treatment, but our role in creating a healthy environment is also important. We have to continue the tree plantation campaigns. Dr. Raja Ijaz Ahmed appealed to the public not to leave their livestock free because often these animals damage the young plants, he said adding that due to which the benefits of tree plantation are lost.
Jahangir Mughal, Admin Officer of Anjuman Falah-o-Behbud Insaniyat Mirpur and Majid Abdul Munir, along with other staff, specially participated in the tree plantation campaign.
During the tree plantation campaign, dozens of saplings were planted in the hospital premises, including sheds, fruit and oxygen-producing plants.
The students and staff expressed their determination that they would not only plant trees but also protect them so that future generations can have a better environment.
